The History

The first "The Body Shop" the store opened on the 26th March 1976 in Brighton. By 1978 a kisok in Brussels became the first overseas franchise by 1982 new shops open at the rate of two per month. In 1985, the first year as a public company, they sponsored posters from Greenpeace, a year later it creates an environmental project department of its own. The first window campaign for the body shop "Save the whale" in 1986.
The first community trade product was the footise roller in 1986 by supplier in Southern India. This trade has evolved into the current trade. With Teddy Exports in India, a key trade supplier.
By 1990 a year after launching in the USA there are 2,500 applications for a franchise. The demand for the body shop grew they then became trading in 39 countries.

When the different shops opened. 


  • The founder Dame Anita Roddick which is now part of the L'oreal corporate group. 
  • Since 31st of December 1990 products have not been tested on animals which in 2009 The Body Shop was awarded. 

The Campaigns 


The Body Shop has been a brand that likes to help the environment and save the world as there products represents natural organic products, so part of this image they have always helped campaigns.
